DUBAI — The UAE Polo Team secured the UAE Polo Federation Cup after edging past Bhansali Polo Team in a hard-fought 7–6 victory at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. The final was played on Saturday, January 17, concluding a competitive tournament that featured eight teams competing at the 12-goal level.
Both finalists earned their place in the championship match with strong semifinal performances. UAE overcame El Basha, while Bhansali advanced after defeating Noon Polo Team.
The final proved to be an intense and closely contested encounter. Bhansali, who had previously beaten UAE in the opening match of the tournament, carried their momentum into the early stages and held a narrow lead through the first three chukkas. However, UAE produced a strong comeback in the final period.
A standout performance from Lukin Monteverde, playing alongside his younger brother Lucero, helped turn the game around. UAE capitalised on their late surge to score the decisive goals and secure the title in dramatic fashion.
The UAE Polo Team lineup featured Alya Al Maktoum, Lucero Monteverde, Lukin Monteverde, and Fermín Prado. Bhansali Polo Team was represented by Rishi Bhansali, Ariel Ponzi, Tom Brodie, and Gonzalo Santamarina.
The match was officiated by umpires Matías Baibiene and Tarquin Southwell, with Tim Ward serving as third man.
Individual honours were awarded at the conclusion of the match. Lukin Monteverde was named Most Valuable Player for his decisive contribution, while the Best Playing Pony award went to Gato, played by Lucero Monteverde.
The tournament concluded with a high level of competition and showcased the growing strength and excitement of polo in the UAE.
